The first film I ever watched that wasn’t a kiddies film was Grease and I loved it. I used to watch it every weekend and back then it was on tape so it was a nightmare rewinding it all the time.
When I was about 10 I watched Transformers and I thought it was the best film I’d ever seen. It blew me away. In my mind I was like; how do you make something like that? That’s when I realised I wanted to go into the film industry. I wanted to learn the art of filmmaking. However, I had no idea what area I wanted to do. As I was in high school there weren’t opportunities to study TV and film so I decided to take drama. I loved acting in drama and I did really well in it. The only thing I didn’t like was when our performances were filmed on camera. I found myself becoming shy in front of the lens.
I came to the conclusion that because I was shy I didn’t want to pursue acting in further education so I looked at different courses to study at college. Something behind the camera. I found a course that was at Leeds City College called TV and film production and reading through the description it really appealed to me.
I was nervous to start college but it was definitely the right course for me. I really enjoyed going to college and doing all the different projects we did. As I loved it that much I decided to continue it at University. However, I decided to drop TV and pursue film as I have a stronger passion for it. I’m currently studying Film Production at the University of Derby and I’m definitely on the right path. I’m enjoying every minute of it.
I still can’t decide what area I want to go into. I used to be 100% dedicated to directing and screenwriting but now I have gotten into cinematography, editing, sound and producing. There aren’t many females in this industry, especially directing so I would definitely love the chance to be a well-known female in this industry to inspire other females like me.
Leonardo Dicaprio is definitely one of my favourite actors. I’m a huge fan of Paul Walker and have been for many years. I love a number of his films especially the Fast and Furious franchise. Samuel L Jackson is a huge favourite of mine too. He’s amazing. As for actresses, I really like Jennifer Lawrence, partly because I love The Hunger Games films and she’s hilarious. However, I think my all time favourite actress is probably Rosamund Pike. Her performances are stunning and she’s so enduring to watch.
As for what my favourite films are I’d have to say 10 Things I Hate About You with Heath Ledger because it’s an absolute classic. I’d also have to say the Transformers films one and two. The Hunger Games and the Fast and Furious franchise. Also the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a huge superhero fan, I love all Marvel films. I’d say that my preferred genre is action/thriller. I love fast films and a good plot twist. Something that keeps you intrigued and sat on the edge of your seat. I kind of avoid animation films as I prefer real people in films. Having said that I do love the minions from Despicable Me, I’m a bit obsessed with them. Despicable Me is the only animation franchise I’ve seen more than once. I was made to watch Frozen and I hated it. Musical animations are even worse than normal animations.
My favourite TV programmes are Arrow, Grey’s Anatomy, Orphan Black, How To Get Away With Murder and American Horror Story. I also love my police dramas. The TV shows I watch are similar to the films I watch as they are action packed or have very dark storylines.
At the minute I’m on a very exciting journey in my life that I’m thoroughly enjoying. I don’t know for sure where I want to be in this industry but I have time to figure that out. Right now I’m just enjoying myself and doing the things I love. I welcome you all to follow me on this journey, in hopes, I find where I need to be.
